Capacity building training report

The staff team and the CRC facilitators 5 of them participated in the training. Ms. Sivaranjani CRC facilitator welcomed the trainer Mr. Samson from Chennai Loyala and the board member Mrs. Princy who were special to this training. The trainer introduced himself that he is flexible to any interaction of the participants if they need clarifications. He started with the exercise with the pieces of 5 card boards which needs to be assembled as letter T. The participants were divided into three groups with three each and none of the groups were able to assemble the cards. The trainer himself at the end of the given time made to understand after which all the groups were able to form the letter T as per the instruction.

Capacity means developing from what one already has therefore every participant should think always that nothing is impossible again he meant to say that everyone is capable of doing  things but the way of doing differs from person to person based on the interest and the involvement with the adequate time and working environment that leads to success.

The trainer again insisted that a social worker should always take things and think as optimist. The negative energy and thought will result in failure. A person who works in the community should act as a beginner to learn the reality and the origin of the people, for those who understand the routines of the community is brave. The degrees and qualifications can support the person in reporting and communicating whereas to work in the community, only the listening capacity and the for it  

Orientation and techniques of community organizing

Mr. Samson continued this session saying that, Community organizers generally assume that social change necessarily involves conflict and social struggle in order to generate collective power for the powerless. Community organizing has as a core goal the generation of durable power for an organization representing the community allowing it to influence key decision-makers on a range of issues over time. In the ideal, for example, this can get community-organizing groups a place at the table before important decisions are made. Community organizers work with and develop new local leaders, facilitating coalitions and assisting in the development of campaigns.

Group Exercise

The staffs were divided into 5 groups and they were asked to discuss and write on the way they expect the community to get organized as well as the strategy to mobilize them. The group discussions brought things such as that the community should not expect the staffs to call them for the meet rather they voluntarily come forward and the community should have interest to bring agendas for discussions on their own. The community should take the responsibility of monitoring and reporting the existing CBOs of the projects in the village. Apart from these outstanding points they had written the same recommendations in different route. 

Strategy

The trainer explained that unless and until the community experiences the comfort through the project from their craving need, the community will never respond to our call notices to any meetings or trainings. Therefore as FCO or as project staff every beneficiary should individually get benefited only then the volunteerism and the commitment for the meet or for workshop, it will not be a challenge in terms of organizing. 

Conclusion    

The trainees were able to know the importance and methods of community organizing. The purpose and plan for the same would give force for the mobilization and this was the major and essential element for the community organizer. The trainees were able to enjoy the day with games, exercises and group works that helped them to organize the community in an effective way.
